Sarah Kearns is a senior in the International Baccalaureate program at Curtis High School in Staten Island. She returned to GWN this year after winning two Silver Keys in memoir and poetry in the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Sarah enjoys writing essays and creating video content with her mentor, Katie. Her past internship at the Staten Island Advance, sparked her interest in journalism. Sarah will be studying writing in college in the fall.

Katie Reilly is a breaking news reporter for Time magazine in New York, where she covers politics and education. She studied English and political science as a Morehead-Cain scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has written for Reuters, the Raleigh News & Observer, Boston magazine and Pew Research Center. This is Katie's first year as a mentor for GWN. She's looking forward to a year of many new writing projects with her mentee, Sarah.
